Apresentadora luta contra tumor do cérebro igual ao que afeta a sua mãe

Maria Menounos é um nome conhecido para quem costuma ver o canal E! Entertainment, já que a apresentadora é uma das caras que conduz o espaço E! News. E agora vai deixar de ser vista no pequeno ecrã.

Isto porque a profissional, de 39 anos, vai deixar de apresentar o programa para se concentrar na luta contra o cancro.

Maria Menounos revelou à revista ‘People’ que descobriu o tumor enquanto acompanhava a mãe, que tem um cancro estado terminal, também no cérebro.

Os sintomas foram dores de cabeça e tonturas. “O meu discurso tornou-se confuso tinha dificuldade em ler o teleponto”, salientou.

Quando realizou os exames, detetaram-lhe um meningioma do tamanho de uma bola de golfe que estava já a afetar os seus nervos faciais. “Eu não chorei. Atualmente, até me rio”, contou.

A apresentadora foi operada no dia do 39ª aniversário, a 8 de junho, e retiraram-lhe 99,9% do tumor. Apesar deste ser benigno, existe naturalmente uma hipótese de recidiva e por isso Maria pretende dedicar-se mais à saúde e menos ao trabalho.

Adam Stotsky, presidente do canal E! Entertainment, afirmou: “Os nossos pensamentos e apoio vão para Maria e sua família. Nós desejamos o melhor, sabendo que Maria vai enfrentar isso. Estamos gratos pelas muitas contribuições de Maria para E! nos últimos três anos”.

Esta segunda-feira, a apresentadora recorreu ao Instagram para agradecer todo o apoio recebido.

De ascendência grega, Menounos – com carreira nos EUA – co-apresentou o Festival da Eurovisão em Atenas em 2006.
